our story

I’m David Tavit. I have been a business owner in Summit since 2000, and I moved here from New York City in 2003. When I came to this area, I was dissatisfied with my dry cleaning options. I noticed that there were few alternatives to traditional PERC cleaning for people who are health-conscious or environmentally-aware. PERC (or tetrachloroethene) is a petroleum-based solvent made by big oil companies. It's classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a Group 2A carcinogen, and it leaves behind a telltale smell. I did not want these chemicals on my clothes, or my family's!

That’s why, in 2009, I decided to start my own dry cleaning business: Green Village Cleaners. At first, we used GreenEarth Cleaning, a process which uses silicone (liquid sand). But in 2010, we upgraded to the best dry cleaning technology on the market: Wet Cleaning.
